Lip Reduction Surgery
A surgery done to reduce the size of the lips is called lip reduction. The excision is usually done from the inner side of the lips where the surgeon excises a part of the mucosa after accurate measurements.
Am I a candidate?
Candidates for lip reduction surgery include patients that have naturally large lips. It can also be performed on patients that are unhappy with the results of a permanent lip augmentation procedure done in the past.
Lip Reduction Risks
Any patient that undergoes surgery should be aware that there are some risks and side effects associated with treatment. The side effects of surgery include pain, swelling, bruising, and redness in the treatment area; these side effects generally dissipate within a few days of surgery. More serious risks for patients that have lip reduction surgery include an infection or an allergic reaction to the anesthesia that is used during surgery.
What is Lip Augmentation?
Lip augmentation procedures increase the size of the lips and may reduce fine wrinkles around the mouth. The upper or lower lip may be treated alone, or both lips may enlarged at the same time. Lip augmentation can be achieved by injecting or surgically by a graft of the dermis or fat into the lips.
